Ardcoat is an
acrylic, gloss, varnish paint from the
Citadel
Technical
range.
- Acrylic - Acrylic paints are water-based and quick drying, typically drying within minutes after application.
This allows painters to apply multiple layers quickly.
They can be diluted with water and are easier to clean up than oil paints.
- Gloss - Gloss paints have a high-shine, glossy finish that gives a smooth and reflective appearance to the painted surface. They are ideal for painting metallic and reflective surfaces such as water, gems and eye lenses. A gloss finish also tends to be more durable than matte finishes and can be used to protect paint layers. It can make photographing miniatures more difficult due to its reflective nature.
- Varnish - A varnish is a transparent, protective coating generally applied over the completed paint job on a miniature. The primary function of a varnish is to protect the underlying paint layers from damage, such as chipping, scratching, or wear and tear caused by handling or gaming. For some advanced painting techniques a varnish is applied before continuing to the next step. Varnishes come in different sheens such as matte, satin, and gloss finishes, which allows the painter to adjust the final sheen of the paints.
